What day is it? huh? Oh sorry dude, I’m totally stoned.

Barack Obama has an opinion about weed. Come learn what “decriminalizing” is all about.

Hey man, I don’t get why the don’t just legalize weed dude. I mean you can’t die from it. People die from like drinking an cigarettes, but never did anyone die from weed. What’s that? Obama said what?!?!?

DUDE THAT’S AWESOME! He is TOTALLY gonna legalize it. Wait what did he say?

“I’m not someone who believes in the legalization of Marijuana.”

What is decriminalization?

Decriminalization would essentially make marijuana possession laws petty crimes, like parking violations and public urination. So instead of getting hauled into court (or even jail for you ballers) you’d get $75 ticket and sent on your way.

While this would be a huge step forward for those who want to see it, it is my opinion that it isn’t enough.

To legalize marijuana would mean that we, as a country, finally get to utilize our largest legally grown cash crop. here is the 2006 report (as a pdf)

Marijuana is the largest cash crop in the United States, more valuable than corn and wheat combined. Using conservative price estimates domestic marijuana production has a value of $35.8 billion. The domestic marijuana crop consists of 56.4 million marijuana plants cultivated outdoors worth $31.7 billion and 11.7 million plants cultivated indoors worth $4.1 billion.

Hemp could be used for rope, clothing, paper, and most other textiles. It could be taxed when sold for recreational use, and used to treat the terminally ill.

Many states have already decriminalized marijuana and have seen no adverse effects.

One more thing before I quit, why would the government allow cigarettes to be sold (which kills 440,000 people a year), and not allow weed (which has killed 0 ever)?

I’m not saying that everyone should go out and smoke weed. I’m not even going to say it’s worth doing, but I will say this; there is no reason to make it illegal.

Happy Holidays.
