The Megaplex: Journey 2, The Vow, Safe House and Star Wars Episode 1

This week at the Megaplex is all about if “that is your thing.”

So… sit back, relax, and read what the hell I have to say about Journey 2: The Mysterious Island, The Vow, Safe House and Star Wars: Episode I – The Phantom Menace.

Journey 2: The Mysterious Island is an American 3D adventure film and the sequel to the 2008 film Journey to the Center of the Earth (One of the first main stream 3D films). It stars Dwayne Johnson, Michael Caine, Josh Hutcherson, Vanessa Hudgens, Luis Guzmán and Kristin Davis. The basics of the plot are that Sean Anderson (Josh Hutcherson) partners with his mom’s boyfriend (Dwayne Johnson) on a mission to find his grandfather (Michael Caine), who is thought to be missing on a mythical island.

To be honest, this movie looks like complete crap. I’m all about kid’s films, but I just can’t get behind this, especially with Brendan Fraser not reprising his lead role. Josh Hutcherson is really the only character of worth that is here from the original. It baffles me they got Michael Caine to be in this flick. I will admit, I’m a big fan of Dwayne Johnson, and I’m not surprised to see him in this film, but yea I’m still not feeling it. I do want to do dirty dirty dirty things to Vanessa Hudgens though. I have wanted to fuck her brains out since she came onto the scene in High School Musical (Yes, I am a fan). Anyways, this film looks like garbage, but look out for Josh Hutcherson in the upcoming epic, The Hunger Games, as that is going to be awesome!!!

The Vow is a romantic drama film starring Channing Tatum, Rachel McAdams, Sam Neill, Scott Speedman, and Jessica Lange (American Horror Story, HELL YEA!!!). This film, looks like a pretty good romantic comedy if “that is your thing”, and it’s based on a real life couple. It tells the story of a woman, Paige (McAdams), who gets put in a coma from a car accident, and when she wakes up, she has severe memory loss, and her husband Leo (Tatum) works to win her heart again. So yea, I find this intriguing since it’s based off real events, and it will give me the chance to imagine McAdams naked.

Safe House is an action thriller film starring Denzel Washington and Ryan Reynolds. The basics of the plot are when a group of rebel soldiers from the neighboring region destroy a CIA-operated safe house, the facility’s young house-sitter (Reynolds) escapes with the rogue ex-CIA agent (Washington) who is being hidden there, and the two men battle their way across South Africa in order to reach another secure location. Many are going to say this movie looks badass, and it will probably win the weekend battle, but this just doesn’t look that great to me. Nothing screams originality to me, and even though Denzel is one of Hollywood’s greats, he has basically done this before, and Reynolds is just being Reynolds. I’m not saying this movie is going to be bad per say, but like I said earlier, it’s one of those if “that is your thing.”

Unless you have lived under a rock your whole life and haven’t taken the trip to a galaxy far far away, there really isn’t much point for me to go on about this last film of the week, but since I am a MASSIVE fan, I will tell you what’s up. Star Wars Episode I: The Phantom Menace was released in 1999 and was the first of the much anticipated Star Wars Prequels written and directed by George Lucas. It is the fourth film to be released in the Star Wars saga, as the first of a three-part prequel to the original Star Wars trilogy, as well as the first film in the saga in terms of story chronology. The Phantom Menace was also Lucas’ first project as a film director after 22 years.

The basics are set around two Jedi Knights, Qui-Gon Jinn (Liam Neeson) and his Jedi apprentice Obi-Wan Kenobi (Ewan McGregor), who uncover a wider conflict when they are sent as emissaries to the blockaded planet Naboo. This film also introduces us to the young Anakin Skywalker who we all know turns into the GREASTEST Villain of all-time, Darth Vader. Many fans around the world have hated these prequels, and have said that Lucas has destroyed their childhood. I mean personally, I don’t feel that way at all, especially since Natalie Portman is in it (LOVE HER). Yes, the original trilogy is WAY better, but as an obsessive Star Wars fan, I still appreciated the prequels. In reality, pleasing the fans 100 percent was basically an impossible task, but I respect George Lucas’ vision. This is the first of the re-releases in 3D, as the entire Saga will be coming back to theaters. It’s the same movie we all know, but word on the street is the 3D is the best post conversion anyone has seen, you get to see it on the big screen again, and you get a badass pair of 3D glasses. You all already know if you will go see this or not and just add even more money to George Lucas’ EXTREMELY DEEP POCKETS. 3D or not 3D, that is the question…
