The List: My Favorite Cartoons Growing Up

I grew up in the 80’s and all I did was watch cartoons. Take a trip with me down memory lane and see my favorite cartoon shows growing up.

These cartoons are in no particular order. They were some of my favorite shows growing up. My Mom and Dad used to record them for me during the day so when there was nothing good on TV, they would pop in the video to shut me up. LOL. I still own the tapes to this day. I need to get myself a working VCR so I can watch them all again someday. Were these some of your favorites?

1) Alvin & the Chipmunks (1983-1991)

chipmunks

This cartoon was based off of the original 60’s series. What was so great about this cartoon was not only did we hang out with Dave Seville, but we were introduced to the Chipettes! Brittany, Jeanette, and Eleanor.

2) The Care Bears (1985-1986)

My Tenderheart stuffed animal was one of the first stuffed animals I owned. I loved that thing! I still have it to this day. When the more recent version of the Care Bears came out, I had to buy a new one. They both sit next to each other above my head-board over my bed. Let’s not forget about Bedtime Bear, Birthday Bear, Cheer Bear, Grumpy Bear, and Love-A-Lot Bear!

3) Chip & Dale’s Rescue Rangers (1988-1989)

This one was probably my favorite out of all the cartoons I watched. Gadget was my home girl! Chip and Dale started a detective agency with their friends Gadget, Monterey Jack and Zipper.

4) Fraggle Rock (1987-1988)

Not only did this show have an animated version, creator Jim Hensen couldn’t let his puppet skills go to waste. The cartoon was based off of the live action version Hensen created. Gobo was the man! He was my favorite character. There was also Mokey, Red, Boober, and Wembley.

5) Gummi Bears (1985-1989)

gummi

I can still remember the theme song to this show. If you wanna hear it, ask me the next time you see me at a DAPS event after I had a few and I bet you I will sing it! The family lived in Gummi Glen in the kingdom of Dunwyn. This family of Buddy, Clutch, Cubbi, Grammi, Sunni Gummy, Tummi, and many more are the last civilization of Gummies.

6) Hello Kitty’s Furry Tale Theater (1987-1988)

This show followed Hello Kitty and her friends doing their own version of popular fairy tales and stories, like The Wizard of Oz, Cinderella, Peter Pan, and Sleeping Beauty.

7) My Little Pony and Friends (1986-1988)

This cartoon was based off of Hasbro’s My Little Pony toy line. They were all so pretty and I think I owned every single pony! But, I don’t ever remember asking my parents to buy me a real one. This may have been the trade off.

8) Rainbow Bright (1983-1984)

rainbowbright

This is another stuffed animal that I still own. She is beautiful! Rainbow Bright was my best friend growing up. I owned a lot of the toys that were put into production. If I can find the outfit, watch out everyone, I’m rocking Rainbow Bright for Halloween!

9) Popples (1986-1987)

popples

I really don’t remember much about this cartoon, but I do remember owning the pink one and folding it into a ball and into a ‘popple’ every 15 seconds as a child. There is still a website about this show, check out www.popples.org

10) Strawberry Shortcake (1981)

New school Strawberry Short Cake may be pretty and is rocking a new fancy hat, but old school Strawberry Short Cake was the SHIT! Once again, I owned every single doll or toy put into production. And they all smelled like strawberries!

11) Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (1987-1996)

Every girl watched this show, I don’t care what you say. This show was awesome! I recently bought a t-shirt from Hot Topic with Michaelangelo on it. That’s right I said it! Also, I remember dressing up as him for Halloween one year. Don’t make me break out the picture!

That is a very good question. lol. I thought that myself when I found the picture. I tried looking it up on the interwebs. I found nothing. The Wikipedia page doesn’t have a description of a character coming close to looking like that. Anyone else have a clue??

I asked my mother who watched that show with me 10000000 times a day and doesn’t know who that is either.

The bat’s name was Foxglove, and she was only on like one or two episodes. I don’t know why I remember that.
