AM-DJ: I See You, I Feel You

Celine Dion. Bet you didn’t think you were going to wake up to those words today.

Well, the theme from Titanic brings all the ladies to the yard, so I had to roll with it. That and Inception is coming out this week, so with “Blockbuster” and “Leonardo DiCaprio” in the same search, our analytics would go through the roof.

Speaking of through the roof, get ready for your blood pressure to do likewise as you are either filled with nostalgia or enraged with furious anger.

LOL at Appealing to Racist Fears to Sell Your Shlocky Movie

My Baby is Black! is a French film from 1961. I don’t really know what it’s about, but I can try to piece it together from the trailer…

It looks like some White Chick sleeps with a black dude and get pregnant. The baby is born, but there’s one problem… her baby is black.

I gotta be honest and tell you that I laughed so hard at this. Although the film was born from a time where topics such as this were deemed unacceptable, looking at it now we can all laugh and say aloud, “How silly we were then, fearing such non-issues such as interracial love and the children it produces”

oh…..

I have seen The Human Centipede and I am glad that I did. SPOILERS

Okay people, if you’ve been following the hype surrounding this movie you are in one of two camps; Super Horror/Gore flick nerd who is eagerly awaiting this movie, or Average movie goer that probably thinks that seeing this movie will make you puke forever and scar you.

Sucks to be either of you.

grossest part of the movie.

Here’s the deal folks, I was both disappointed, and surprised, at this film. Let me break it down:

First, why I was disappointed.

The honest truth is that the main draw for this film is the scat play. I hate to break it to you, but there really is none. Want proof?

EPIC Fan Made Patchwork Star Wars remake is about to be released

Star Wars Uncut is a project that allowed users to select a 15 second segment of the Sci-Fi-Fantasy classic and remake it as they wish (“sweding” it as they say).

Well all the clips are in and the film is ready to be released.

I’m thrilled to release “The Escape,” a teaser from the finished Star Wars Uncut: A New Hope movie.

Hundreds of 15 second scenes were put back together in a finished film thanks to the work of several people:

Jamie Wilkinson, manager of video engineering, Bryan Pugh, sound editing master, and Aaron Valdez, video editor and general creative boon for the Uncut team.

We’ll be screening the entire Star Wars Uncut: A New Hope in Copenhagen at CPH:PIX Festival April 19 and have several screenings in NYC in the works.

F*#k Tim Burton, Kiddfuture Will Bring You Alice in Wonderland

from KiddFuture

The BFI National Archive has restored the original ‘Alice In Wonderland’ film, in 1903 which is over a 100 years ago. For those who understand the timeline of film, that’s only 8 years after film was invented. Check it out and go see the 2010 version 107 years later, this is mind blowing.

Watching this reminded me of how innovative early film makers were. Most people attribute these “low tech” special effects to kitchy 50’s b-movies and other of the ilk, but it really was the first generation of film makers exploring all the things that could be done with a camera.

Nowadays this idea is kind of lost. With green screen technology built into MacBooks, out-of-the-box special effects filters, Michael Bay, and CGI Movies winning “Best Cinematography”, it’s hard to come across a genuine attempt at expanding the medium. (Actually Avatar DID expand the medium, just poorly).

Watch Alice in Wonderland (1903) here.

Memoirs of a Scanner

Check out this very cool little short film made using only a scanner and some good ol’ American ingenuity. Be on the lookout for office copy machine sex, and what I believe to be a Fight Club reference.

This short was made by some pretty talented people called Mindfruit Studios. <— click this to see more dummy!

The Films of 2009… In one 7 minute video!

the-informant-1

Thanks to one of my favorite tweeps @Mseech, I was introduced to this masterpiece of movie trailer editing. keesvdijkhuizen, who gained youtube fame last year with an Academy Awards Show worthy montage featuring movies released in 2008, returned to do the same for this year’s films.

2009 proved that innovation is rewarded, and for that reason, I’ve decided no film should be left behind. I’ve nearly tripled the amount of footage used in 2008: A Tribute To The Movies. The sequel to the reason most of you subscribed is here: enjoy, leave a comment and take a look at my other work!

Check out the video here:

Pretty cool huh? For those of you interested in the music, he listed that on his youtube page also:

‘Malabar Front’ by If These Trees Could Talk remains courtesy of If These Trees Could Talk, ® 2006.
‘Death’ by White Lies remains courtesy of Polydor Ltd. (UK), ® 2008.
‘Crying Lightning’ by Arctic Monkeys remains courtesy of Domino Records, ® 2009.
‘1901′ by Phoenix remains courtesy of Ghettoblaster under Exclusive Licence to V2 Records, ® 2009.
‘Wake Up’ by Arcade Fire remains courtesy of Rough Trade, ® 2005.

What was your favorite movie of 09′?

Review: Star Wars Clone Wars…

This past week I was able to get my hands on a DVD of the Star Wars: Clone Wars movie. Maybe it was just that I got it for free or that I was lit up on helium and ecstasy, but I have to say, in all honesty, I liked it.

CLONE WARS Pictures, Images and Photos

I get a sense that it has a resounding 8% on www.Rottentomatoes.com for a reason. I feel that this reason is because people were expecting (falsely I might add) this film to be an epic swoon of the most-fanciful elements of the Star Wars universe. Instead, the critics were treated to what is essentially an hour and a half long premiere episode of the Clone Wars t.v. show.

clone wars: clone Pictures, Images and Photos

If taken within the context of the premiere episode of the show, it’s really not that bad. It has a paper-thin plotline for sure, but it has a surprisingly robust amount of action throughout the duration that I only felt myself drifting outside the realm of the movie during a ten minute lull in the middle.

As for the animation. Sure, it looks cheap on the surface. But it does have a unique style that, while at first off-putting, grows on you quickly until you forget you even had any grievances with it at all. Remember, this film should be considered part of the t.v. show; they need the animation to be good, not great, to keep costs on the low. Is it the best CGI ever? Not even close. But it does it’s job.

Clone Wars Pictures, Images and Photos

Overall, it’s a cute little diversion that does it’s job as the lead-in for the t.v. show. Is it the best Star Wars film they could have put in a theatre and charged people $10.00 to see? No. Is it possibly on-par with at least one, if not two, of the three prequel films when viewed on a DVD that I got for free? Yes.
