Sociological Deconstruction of (some) of the Disney Princesses

We all know that little girls have very few positive role models in this day and age, but I’m sure there are SOME places you can find one… right?

This caught my eye this morning over at Neatorama because I have a young niece who is now in that “I love Disney Princesses” stage. Now nothing in this image is very original, it’s pretty much the same observations anyone with a brain would have made, but knowing our audience, I decided to share.

Ah yes, too true, too true, albeit a little cursory.

Now don’t get me wrong, I’m probably the most misogynistic person you’ve ever met, but I just don’t think it’s very fair to offer girls poor role models. I think they will screw up no matter what movies they like as children.

On the original post a commenter offered a flip-side-view of what Disney teaches young boys. (yes, they have commenters that are actually involved!)

With all that said… which princess would you bang? Also: Rule 34 on Disney.

I agree with all of this, except Belle. I’m biased bc she’s my favorite… but, she’s awesome. She’s smart, takes care of her dad, likes animals, and reading… she’s selfless (trades places with her dad for his freedom), and she falls in love with someone who’s less than attractive. The rest of these bitches just happen to find a ridiculously handsome man and marry them… anddddd HAPPILY EVER AFTER! The only thing that kinda bothers me is the fact that she basically falls in love with a … dog… wolf… beast. lol

Also, in the start Ariel just wanted to know if the grass was greener on the other side – but ultimately it turned into a love quest.

We need to discuss something, it could be greatness, Disney totally applies.
