Review – Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr.
Carlo got a long awaited film from Netflix today… JIZZ IN HIS PANTS, I suppose. Well, anyway, he’s gonna half-assedly review Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr.

A while back our very own Mighty Vin wrote a piece on Jim Carrey sequels not starring Jim Carrey and Sham highlighted a particular film from that post claiming that Comedy has Died.
The ‘film’ in question is Ace Ventura: Pet Detective Jr. It’s a kid’s movie that continues the lineage of the 5 star films of the same name.
from the IMDB synopsys:
“I will try to be normal” 12-year-old Ace Ventura Jr. promises. Thats cool, except whats normal for him is finding missing mutts, kidnapped kitties or gone gators and creating hilarious chaos every step of the way. Like father, like son, its in his nature to be a pet defective detective! And when a zoos baby panda is stolen and Aces mom is Suspect #1, our young hero sets out to clear the family name. Its a new generation of family fun and goof-brained comedy panda-monium as Ace Ventura Jr. (Josh Flitter of Nancy Drew and License to Wed) teams with adventurous girl-next-door Laura (Emma Lockhart) and nerdish gizmo-wiz A-Plus (Austin Rogers) to chase down leads and laughs. Ready for fun? Allriiiighty-then. Ace – Ace Jr. is on the case!

Being the fan of terrible movies I am, I decided to put the film on my Netflix. Surprisingly, the film was so in demand that there was a VERY LONG WAIT to get it. then, this past week, something magical happened….

O. M. G. My day has finally come. Now, I’m going to watch it. BRB in 1 hour, 33 mins. In the meantime enjoy this trailer:
All Righty Then….
That movie was pretty bad. Andy Milonakis Josh Flitter does a pretty good Ace impression but only after he realizes that being normal is lame (despite his promise to his mom).’
Rex Ventura, Ace Jr’s grandfather, teaches Ace Jr. about his lineage. Ace Sr. Died in a mysterious plance incident involving the Bermuda Triangle and a flock of Geese.Rex also spits out EVERY SINGLE ACE VENTURA CATCH PHRASE IN ONE SINGLE SCENE.
All in all, the movie was pretty good (for a straight to DVD kids flick). However you will groan a lot if you are a fan of the original two.
Morals of the story: Cops are dumb, rich people steal animals, and “be who you are.” Also, fart sounds save every awkward shot.
My rating: 6/10. Well written, acceptably acted, jokes are meh, impressive production value. See it if you are REALLY OCD and need to complete the trilogy, as this movie is not a complete bastardization, and definately a part of the lineage of the series.
