I Rigged the Late Night Host Poll… WHAT!
Carlo offers up an argument for why Late Night with Jimmy Fallon is WAY AWESOME.

I was APPALLED after seeing what you people said about Jimmy.

He is FAR from the worst host, here is what I changed the poll to, to more accurately reflect my own opinion, AND reality.

I am not ashamed to say that I love Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Dare I say, there are more laughs per minute than any other late night show.
WHOA!!! Put down the torches and pitchforks, let me get into this….
I HATED Jimmy Fallon on SNL. Yes I know he ruined sketches ’cause he couldn’t stay in character, and he was mildly humorous on Weekend Update (so mild they needed to slap Fallon-Lover Tina Fey on with him.)
I HATED every one of his shitty, shitty movies. Taxi? First Pitch? Garbage.
But the man works on Late Night. It’s his show, no scripts to remember or Drew Barrymores to have chemistry with. He is free to just be his amusing self. Because THAT’s what you want in a late night show, a personality.
We fell in love with Conan because of his self effacing humor, we loved Letterman’s off-beat and self-aware vibe, and old people liked Leno’s harmless early-bird special brand of comedy. Fallon definitely takes pages out of all of the books of his predecessors, but does it with his silly, not-so-aloof smile. I’m essentially won over by his charm.
Let’s break the show down a bit.
Monologue
Okay, for the most part, these are weak. But I cant think of a strong monologue in ANY late night show. I mean I’ll laugh, but it’s never like OMG THE BEST segment on any show period. Fallon does a good job of knowing the bad jokes and has a ritual of handing the card of the worst joke to an audience member. (more on audience participation later). He also has some fun with it too like with Slow Jam the News:
Segments
The segments usually involves the audience, and a guest, if they are good. These are pretty funny. Actually, I love them. why can’t I love corny audience participation and/or very offbeat and odd humor?
Guests
Okay, Fallon’s guests aren’t the best but they are fun. Often the interview will focus on Fallon and the Guests real life relation ship (like talking for 15 minutes about how he discovered Andy Sandberg). Fallon has a genuine interest in his guests and it’s fun to watch the conversation. More often than not there is some sort of plug going, but it’s never ever the focus of the convo. He also plays games with his guests, which is fun.
Advertising
I am never one to get upset about product placement or in-show ads or anything like that, but I get the feeling that NBC uses this show as an hour-long infomercial. amirite?
Audience Participation
OMG it has to be a blast to be at these tapings. Seriously, the show is more of an experience for the live audience than the last time I was at a Letterman taping where Tim Robbins droned on for 45 minutes.
The Roots
They are funny, super-talented, and always playing along with Jimmy’s silly ideas. How the fuck did this happen?
7th Floor West
One of the show’s weekly bits is a Hills-esque drama series they’ve created. Pretty funny stuff.
Anyway, I’d recommend you check it out. Seriously, It’s awesome.
UPDATED!
OH SHIT I forgot my favorite segment! Letters from Camp!!!

The ping pong match with Betty White was pretty funny. Also, I watched one episode when him and a cohost went to a cirque del sole training gym. Hilarious.

YES – THAT EPISODE WAS SO FUNNY.
Like i get that people don’t like it, but it’s because they are too afraid to embrace silly for silly’s sake.

i LOVE jimmy. Dare I say…..I can’t stand conan? I honestly don’t find him funny. He doesn’t ever stop. Either way, jimmy is just a normal, funny guy and I like that. I laugh outloud watching

HOW DARE YOU COURTNEY, HOW DARE YOU!

I disagree with the “can’t stand conan” but I guess I could see why you feel that way.
Fallon does an excellent job of being your “buddy” while everyone else is worried about “putting on a show”. I like that about him.

So much for net neutrality, eh Carlo?
This will come back to bite you in the ass decades from now when you’re up to become a Supreme Court justice.
For the record I voted for Carson Daly, I have no beef with Fallon.

I think Jimmy sucks as a host, asking questions. But i saw the one with steve martin and paul simonn, best skit ever. His show is good but i think hes just new and he’ll get the hang of it. I went to a live taping of jimmy kimmel, that show was just awkward, That jimmy is no good. But really, Its Carson all the way. At least when conan or Jay talk about themselves we want to hear about it, but carson is a nobody whos big fifteen minutes of fame was TRL and dating Tara reid. I dont care what you did on the weekend, Come on, what do we need him on the air for, Bring back the chevy chase show, Just kidding.
