Recently, Facebook has been taking a stand against profiles and groups on it’s site that include propaganda relating to Holocaust denial, KKK, gay-bashing, along with other forms of hate speech.
I never though I would ever be saying this, but, I’m taking sides with the Holocaust deniers.
The fact that Facebook is deleting any content at all, be it hate speech or otherwise, should be a wake-up call to anyone who even remotely claims to love America.
By imposing limits on speech, Facebook attempts to make it’s site a safer and more-friendly place to network.
I’m sorry to break the news to Facebook, but if you’re looking to become a virtual microcosm of real life, then you should know that real life isn’t all rainbow sprinkles and free refills.
In limiting the reality of negativity in real life within the constructs of a system used by many as an extension of real life, then you are denying the users of said construct the opportunity to grow as people by making judgment calls on issues such as hate speech and the Holocaust.
It’s, essentially, one more step towards creating a society of people without emotion or the limited intellect needed to harness the power of free will.
The true solution lies within man.
If Facebook is truly a reflection of the society it depicts, then the Holocaust deniers’ posts should be left up. If society, as a majority, deems the material offensive, then the groups and profiles containing the “offensive” material will be disregarded as trash and/or be railed against by the population–not the administration.
