AM-DJ: Looking For The Monkey But He Can’t Be Found

“Cuz he’s down by the pond playing hockey with the kids!” Ya silly goose!

Hockey Monkey by The Zambonis: Because Monkey and Hockey are more than just two random words that have “_o_key” as their frame, right guys?

AM-DJ: Now I’m Where A Snail Has To Be

Back in 1994, They Might Be Giants added extra musicians to their group and focused on a more guitar-heavy sound. This was seen by some fans as blasphemous and detrimental to their, then current, minimalistic style.

These fans are idiots.

To say that something is bad because it is different is the same as saying blacks are terrible people because their skin is different than white people’s skin (oh, I went there).

So what I guess I’m trying to get at is that a certain section of TMBG fans are hardcore racists.

…..Wait, what? Yes No.

::shifts eyes:: Here’s “Snail Shell” off the extremely underrated album John Henry. ::slowly backs out of room::

In 1995, Wu-Tang ran the game.

With solo albums as good as “Liquid Swords” and “Only Built 4 Cuban Linx” it’s no wonder.

Before Raekwon was collaborating with Justin Bieber, he was a legit hardcore rapper.

Raekwon’s “Ice Cream” off OB4CL is a heartwarming tale of lyrical poetry, love, redemption, and family values….actually it’s about bitches and ice cream.

AM-DJ: In Keds and Tube Socks

Weezer Wheatus. Teenage Dirtbag. WHEATUS WROTE AND PERFORMED TEENAGE DIRTBAG.

Back in the early 2000s, around the time of Napster, their song “Teenage Dirtbag” got picked up on that and other peer-to-peer sites and was erroneously attributed to Weezer.

As big of a music junkie as I am, Wheatus had managed to completely slip under my radar this whole time until I had heard of this snafu a few years ago.

After listening to “Teenage Dirtbag” I can safely say that any fan of either band who gets this confused with Weezer probably isn’t an actual fan of their respective band and should be rightly called-out and humiliated in front of a large crowd of friends.

While I’ll confess that the guitars could be mistaken for early-2000s Weezer, those vocals are a complete dead-giveaway.

I mean, Rivers Cuomo doesn’t have the manliest voice in the world, but the dude can belt out a song. Brendan B. Brown on the other hand has this weird squee to his voice; It’s kind-of hard to describe, but listen closely to his Es, Is, and As during the high-notes of the chorus and you’ll hear what I mean.

The video is pure early-2000s candy-coated nostalgia. The whole vibe reeks of that time between 1999 and right before 9/11 (when America changed forever) when everything was this perfected vision of high school, everyone wore desaturated colors with some kind-of striped shirt variant, and Jason Biggs was a thing.

It’s Official Pop-Punk Bands Have Covered Everything… Even The Bed Intruder Song.

I’m not going to lie, I’m a giant sucker for a pop-punk cover. I’m a huge Me First and the Gimme Gimmes fan, and a bigger fan of New Found Glory’s “From The Screen To Your Stereo” series. So when I read that the All-Star Pop-Punk bed intruder cover existed AND featured Jordan of NFG, I was pretty damn excited.

The Gregory Brothers’ “Bed Intruder” song has just got a punk rock cover, courtesy of Hayley Williams of Paramore, Jordan Pundik of New Found Glory and Ethan Luck of Relient K.

The Gregory Brothers — of “Auto-Tune the News” fame — have been tearing it up with their viral jam lately, scoring a spot on the Billboard Hot 100 and selling scads of copies on iTunes (it sold 10,571 copies in the first two days alone). The remix is basically an auto-tuned version of a news report during which Antoine Dodson of Huntsville, Alabama, speaks about the attempted rape of his sister.

Now, apparently, the song has caught the attention of the punk set (we know, we know… punk is dead, but allow us this assignation as it is what the mainstream deems the above bands). Ethan Luck of Relient K uploaded the above cover to his YouTube page yesterday.

Fucking. Awesome. You can run and tell that!

AM-DJ: Pizza’s the food that’s sure to please, These ninjas are into pepperoni and cheese.

Long before Vanilla Ice blessed us with the Ninja Rap, Partners In Kryme displayed TURTLE POWER! That’s right boys and girls, this morning I’m giving you another Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtle themed hip-hop masterpiece.

You may not remember it, but this musical monster actually hit #13 on the Billboard hot 100 chart which means it was a pretty big hit. How could it not be? Just look at the album cover:

Amazing.

Turkish Pop Star Reminds us of How Depressing Life Outside the US Actually Is

İsmail YK is, I guess, a pop star who’s latest video for his song about Facebook flirting is kinda horrible.

I mean it’s bad on SO many levels.

  1. When making a MUSIC VIDEO, never ever have the two sexy stars just sit on a couch typing. It’s boring!
  2. If you ARE going to “portray exactly what the song describes” for some reason, at least be honest about it. Here’s what the video should have looked like:
  3. And What is the deal with those guys in ski masks?

Less Than Jake + Rocks Off Cruise = OMFG AMAZING

Sometimes, and by sometimes I mean rarely, we get to do cool stuff because people see the hours of work we put into this rinky-dink website of ours. And for that we are always eternally grateful. Last Thursday was one of those rare occasions.

Thanks to the fine people with the Rocks Off Concert Cruises and Reybee Productions, we were able to do something that was THIS FUCKING AWESOME:

Awesomeness defined.

That’s right kids; We were attending one of those nifty NYC concert cruises we’ve been hearing so much about lately. You can, and should, look further into the upcoming events that Rocks Off has scheduled because, as you’ll read in this post, they’re really really worth it.

Now, if you look closely at the bottom left of the above photo you can see the side profile of Chris Demakes peeking through the crowd. Chris, for those of you who aren’t in the know, is the lead singer of my all time favorite band Less Than Jake. Most widely known for their minor radio hit “The Science of Selling Yourself Short“, LTJ (as I’ll refer to them from here on out), have toured with everyone from Blink 182 to Fall Out Boy and are veterans of the Van’s Warped Tour. Basically, if you didn’t know who they were before… now you know and should go directly to iTunes (after reading this and looking at all of the pretty photos of course!) Continue reading this post →

AM-DJ: Touch Me On Me Butt

Hey guys, Shaggy’s back! Hey, wait; don’t leave!

It’s cool, because we’re balancing it out with the Mr. Bean version of the video for “Boombastic” from that movie he did that no one cared about.

Still don’t give a shit? Meh, whatever. You’ll have to care about something eventually.

Maybe next time we can get the Blackadder to dance to Baha Men.
