Less Than Jake + Rocks Off Cruise = OMFG AMAZING

Sometimes, and by sometimes I mean rarely, we get to do cool stuff because people see the hours of work we put into this rinky-dink website of ours. And for that we are always eternally grateful. Last Thursday was one of those rare occasions.

Thanks to the fine people with the Rocks Off Concert Cruises and Reybee Productions, we were able to do something that was THIS FUCKING AWESOME:

Awesomeness defined.

That’s right kids; We were attending one of those nifty NYC concert cruises we’ve been hearing so much about lately. You can, and should, look further into the upcoming events that Rocks Off has scheduled because, as you’ll read in this post, they’re really really worth it.

Now, if you look closely at the bottom left of the above photo you can see the side profile of Chris Demakes peeking through the crowd. Chris, for those of you who aren’t in the know, is the lead singer of my all time favorite band Less Than Jake. Most widely known for their minor radio hit “The Science of Selling Yourself Short“, LTJ (as I’ll refer to them from here on out), have toured with everyone from Blink 182 to Fall Out Boy and are veterans of the Van’s Warped Tour. Would You Ever Get A Haircut from a Blindfolded Barber?

Me neither. Well that’s probably because I cut my own hair. But then again, it’s always uneven and crappy, so I might as well pay someone to do it…ALRIGHT.

“The Charlie Rose of Hip Hop” Emilio Sparks decided to let Celebrity Barber Jeff Wittek cut his beautiful head of hair while blindfolded.

Whenever I’m at the barber, I’m the real quiet “don’t make fucking small talk, cut cut my fucking hair” type. Which is why I can’t go to barbershops in my neighborhood, cuz they are all the “lets spend all fucking day in here bullshitting about crap I don’t really care about” kind of places. which is why I cut my own hair.

Having my barber blindfolded would make me nervous as hell….

Having seen Emilio in the flesh after this cut, I have to say, Jeff did a pretty dope job. TIGHT FADE.

For those of you who aren’t into footwear, you are missing a pretty cool event being put together by Nike.

In celebration of the World Basketball Festival, Nike decided to make 5 new pairs of Up Towns, one for each borough in NYC. To coincide with the sneakers, Nike produced a video for each borough showcasing it’s BBall/HipHop scene and guess who they chose to represent our hometown/14 mile x 7 mile mancave… that’s right, The Charlie Rose of Hip Hop Emilio Sparks.

Brother’s Pizza is pretty dope.

Average DAPS Reader: Comes To Fap, Stays For Bieber.

Every once in a while, we like to have fun showing you kids what our statistics look like. Not the statistics like you slept through in High School, the kind that tell us what people are doing on our little website here. Last night while going over the hits from the past couple of days (I’m not vain, I have to do that as a web producer) I learned of an interesting trend.

These are yesterdays top 10 search keywords that led people to DAPS.

So basically, these are all hot chicks.. with the exception of “1 man 2 fish” which i can’t really explain. But I digress, Seven Of 9, Reef Girls, Megan Fox, and Michelle Keegan are all womens who have been spotlighted in our “Pipe City” section (which we may have to bring back apparently. ) These all make sense, people use the internet for porn or in the case of our readers to find semi-nude pics of “c” celebrities.

What was really interesting, however, was the results for which links you choose to click on and exit the site:

So you come for the sexy ladies, but click out through the sexy Bieber Twitter accounts…. interesting. Is there something you’d like to tell us?

Emilio Sparks To Appear In Nike’s New Viral Advertising Campaign.

It was only a matter of time before the big boys in the media industry started taking notice of us DAPS kids. We called it, you just weren’t paying attention.

This month, our very own DJ extraordinaire Emilio Sparks was contacted to participate in a very special viral campaign for Nike’s Air Force 1s. Check out the trailer for that, right here:

In conjunction with the World Basketball Festival, Nike Sportswear is connecting the Five Boroughs of New York City in a celebration of its iconic Air Force 1 sneaker.

Nike Sportswear has chosen five ambassadors from each of the five boroughs. The Five Borough ambassadors include rapper, songwriter and producer Theophillus London from Brooklyn; up and coming rapper Miss Banks from Harlem; Rapper and Young Money record artist Corey Gunz from the Bronx; Format, a BMX lifestyle store and crew led by Nigel Sylvester, from Queens; and from Staten Island— host of the longest running show on WSIA in New York, Emilio Sparks.

We’ve Locked Down a Time for Today’s Friendly’s Grilled Cheese BurgerMelt Meet Up

Hey guize,

Sorry about yesterday, I was far too naive to think I could get my iPhone and have any semblance of a productive day. (Although I did make it on time to my 5 hour driving course!)

Anyway, I’ve resolved to make it up to everyone and we are having the meet up today at 3:30pm.

“Wait, I need to be caught up…”

Two days ago I posted about Friendly’s newest burger, that has 2 grilled cheese sammiches as buns.

DAPS Was Hacked and We Lost a Week of Posts

The problem with being on top, is that everyone wants to take you down. Luckily we don’t have those problems here at DAPS. We just get caught up in Russian spam hacking rings.

Here’s how it went down: Yesterday I received an email from Google claiming that this site was practicing unfair spamming methods or something and that we’d be taken down. I obviously panicked (because being shunned from Google is like being turned away from the Garden of Eden). After a very long and very arduous complete scrubbing of the code with The Lobster Man we finally felt safe enough to get the site back up.

This morning we were still infected with spammy code. So we replaced all the code and set the database back a whole week to last friday. I’m sorry, but it was either cut off a mediocre week of posts or be completely destroyed by a malicious hack that would use our lifeblood (you, the readers) as it’s own vile farm of maggots to feed it’s disgusting offers for Viagra and Escort services…. WHAT HAVE I DONE!?!?!?

All kidding aside, yesterday, and this morning sucked, but we did what was necessary.

The hack found an exploit in wordpress (our CMS) and used it to insert a number of spam links into our code that were invisible to most, just not Google.

We don’t feel so bad though… Yesterday Wordpress.com (the pussified hosting solution of what we do here at DAPS) was down for a while taking some of the larger sites on the internet with it.

So now what? Do we just move forward knowing that an entire week being erased? Of course! You watched LOST, you are used to this nonsense.

In the meantime, if you see any weirdness on the site today, just ignore it, cause I already fucking know about it and am fixing things.

A catch-all music show including reviews of old albums, spotlights on cult releases, showcasing unknown bands, blah, blah, blah.

Why a music show?

1. Because I’m a music nerd.
2. Because a show where I play music video clips, talk about music, and generally play music in the background, is a hell of a lot easier to produce than an alternative.

DAPS Covers Ke$ha’s Tik Tok for all of our lovely fans and none of hers.

Yes, it’s true. Dog and Pony Show Media (our parent company) has allowed us the resources and support to cover on of the seminal musical recordings of this generation; Ke$ha’s Tik Tok.

Not wanting to disappoint our fans, we decided to whore out for SEO love and use Crystal Castles’ Courtship Dating as the music for the cover. Music writers LOVE Crystal Castles.

Without further adieu, we present the first release of DAPS Media’s invented record label: Tik Tok vs Courtship Dating.

Using the intro to Courtship Dating by Crystal Castles, and the Lyrics to Ke$ha’s Tik tok, DAPS put together this sweet ass cover to the now infamous song about being a trashed white girl.

For those of you wondering, That’s me singing with Chris and the Mighty Vin providing back up vocals.
