Meet Emilio Sparks’ new bodyguard… Captain America

MikeShane-EmilioSparks-ShineCDR-7398

As you may know DAPS’ Emilio Sparks is hard on the trail promoting his upcoming Mix-tape, getting interviewed all over the place. Emilio, being the genius that he is realized that the promo-road was dangerous territory. So Mr. Sparks did the only logical thing… He hired Captain America as his own personal security guard.

Today we have a gallery of this amazing occurrence. Below is photographic evidence of Emilio and Cap stopping by Crack Distributors Radio , to promote his album Kicks Chicks & Porno Flicks which drops 1/4/20X. The reaction of the CDR crew was pure awesomeness.

Check out the photos by the amazing Mike Shane:

Dear Hunted at Bowery Ballroom: 0 Killed, 0 Injured, Hundreds Had Socks Rocked!

TDH_14

If one were to combine the power of a Metallica song, the compelling story lines of a Coheed and Cambria album, and the pop-sensibilities of a classic rock act like Queen… he would not come remotely close to describing the sound that envelops a room where The Dear Hunter is performing.

Last Wednesday (10/28/09) I was fortunate enough to experience this epic sound for the first time, at one of my favorite venues (the Bowery Ballroom in NYC, check it out!) After making the rookie NYC mistake of thinking Bowery Street was Delancey Street; I met up with my good friend, photographer Elyse Harrell and entered the venue. Upon arriving, we hung out for a beer in the downstairs bar of the venue (because it’s really too damn cool not to) Surprisingly enough, that’s where i was able to make my first impression of The Dear Hunter. The entire band was in the bar, chillin’ and having beers with fans. Major Points to them, as this is an equally rare and cool thing for any band to do.

When the band went on Elyse navigated the standing room crowd with the same grace and aggression that the band’s passionate fans displayed. The crowd swayed from side to side, pumped their fists in the air for emphasis (but not like this,) and sang along to every word sung by former Receiving End of Sirens vocalist, Casey Crescenzo. Like most times when I am catching a band for the first time, I was a little jealous of the people familiar enough to know every line by heart. With the help of Miss Harrell I was able to identify standout performances of the songs Smiling Swine (which I’m told was done in a special jazzy “live-only”version) and their closer Red Hands which pretty much sold me on the group.

Overall It was a very cool performance and I’d highly recommend that you look for The Dear Hunter’s material (or better yet, pop your TDH cherry live like I did.) Either way you should definitely check out the band’s new video for “What It Means To Be Alone” off of their new album Act III: Life and Death by clicking here (or on the image below)
