For my random 80’s nostalgia for the day I present to you a shrine to The Rockbiter, a personal fav character from the 1984 Fantasy Film “The Neverending Story.” Which by the way is being re-made by Warner Bros.

Warner Bros. and a pair of top-tier production companies are in the early stages of a remake of the 1980s children’s fantasy classic The NeverEnding Story, says The Hollywood Reporter.

The Kennedy/Marshall Co. (The Curious Case of Benjamin Button) and Leonardo DiCaprio’s company Appian Way are in discussions with Warner Bros. about reviving the 25-year-old franchise with a modern spin. The studio recently acquired rights to the property, clearing the way for a potential remake. (Via comingsoon.net)

You all know the guy, big gray dude who was transfixed on his “Good, Big, Hands” (I’ll let you take that however you like)

So what else is there to know about Mr. Rockbiter? Let me tell you! (I’ll be calling our good friend Rockbiter by his nickname “RB” which i just made up)

- The Rockbiter appears only once in the novel as opposed to twice in the film, which is unacceptable imo.

- RB was voiced by an actor named Alan Oppenheimer, who also did the Voices of Falcor (the Dragon/Dog), Gmork (the Scary Wolf Looking Thing), and acted as the film’s Narrator.

Oppenheimer also provided the voices of Skeletor, Man-at-arms, and MerMan from the popular 80’s cartoon “Masters of the Universe” He’s also a featured voice in the upcoming feature “9″ produced by Tim Burton.

- The RB has a family consisting of a wife and son, who can be seen in the second and third films in the NES series.

- RB Junior actually has a main role in the third film where he is sent to Earth during a wish overload caused by Bastian.

-The Rockbiter’s scooter is frequently used to cover up a profanity uttered by the nighthob in the opening scene of the movie so it can be shown as a children’s move… (in other words, the Rockbiter symbolizes communism)

-The Rockbiter character was shown on screen as three different models. One of him sitting, one of him on his scooter, and a third where he dismounted from his scooter. That model was operated by actor Colin Guilder.

-The conditions Guilder had to deal with were pretty atrocious “The “costume” had a weight of 20 kg, a eye slid in the stomach and it was very hot and quite immovable. After a fall, his carrier couldn’t stand up again alone.”

-Finally, the most important information about The Rockbiter.. is that he is Hilarious in Hungarian! Take a shot whenever he eats a rock, you’ll know what I mean…

Along with the remake of the film, I am looking for a producer for The Neverending Story on stage at Javits Convention Center in New York City. Both an opera and ballet score have been composed by Siegfried Matthus. Please refer to my website for more details by following the link below.
